Mt Josephine Gravel Loop - Hamilton, WA

Farther east from I-5, after Mount Anderson and Lyman Hill, along the Pacific Northwest Trail, is the Mount Josephine region before it enters the North Cascades National Park near Baker Lake. I had planned to start in Hamilton and ride as close to PNT route as I could and then head NE towards Dock Butte after climbing the Mt Josephine Truck Trail. However, an overgrown, decomissioned, road got in the way of my plan. I continued further east and descended down to Grandy Creek and then Baker Lake Road to get back to SR-20 and my car back in Hamilton. It is a gorgeous ride, once up at altitude, on the south ridge of the South Fork Nooksack River valley. You can use the Cascade Trail to avoid the traffic along SR-20. The GPS Track and pictures for this ride are here.

If you would like to do some of the PNT and summit Mt Josephine, you can follow this route I did back in 2018 but the trail is a little hike a bike. East of the Josephine summit is a tight forest ridgeline descent and not bikable. To descend on bike, it is an out and back.

Had a fun time in "Peshastin, WA" yesterday too!
