Alpine Baldy
Info
Alpine Baldy is a partnership between Evergreen, the US Forest Service, the Town of Skykomish and King County Parks. Phase 1 officially opened on July 20th, 2019. It's a 7 mile out and back on a combination of road-to-trail conversion, new forested singletrack and alpine meadow singletrack. Amazing views!
Phase 2 will add additional trail to turn this into a loop ride. Still in the planning phase.

I had a desire to find out the rate the snow has been melting along Highway 2 this year since it has been a below normal snow pack so I drove to Skykomish to find out. I turned on to the road to the trailhead and parked down low near one set of powerline towers and used the capability of the Levo...
Overgrown vegetation -- this trail needs a serious trimming. The Alders have grown fiercely for the first 3-4 miles since the trail has opened. They're still small enough to be able to be taken out with gas-powered trimmers but pretty soon they're going to overwhelm the trail and it will be lost....
Parked down at the powerlines this morning at 6:30 and began the climb to the trailhead and then to the summit. There is no snow in the meadow. There are two tree obstructions halfway between the base camp and the meadow. One is a single tree and the second is a set of three in a pile blocking th...
Been gone for over a week while driving my daughter home from college, but I got to the trailhead this morning a little after 8am. It was an empty trailhead lot, clear of snow. I began the easterly traverse across the mountain, up to the first 'road to trail' switchback at 3400', and hit snow. Th...
Bike is in the shop so I chose this cool morning to bring the tools to the trail to get rid of the saplings, bushes, and grasses overgrowing our trail. I got all the way to the erosion washout and ran out of time. Anyone else can continue from there or I will come back another day. GPS track for...
I had the trail to myself today on my first visit. Nice and cool in the shade. Much of the lower trail in need of a major brush out requiring an industrial weed whacker to get the alder that threatens to take over. Not a real problem yet, other than whipping your hands a bit on the ride down, but...
Started up the trail just after 7am in the foggy warm mountain air. Visibility wasn't good for the river valley or summit vistas and snow is still keeping us bikes from the upper meadow. I got to snow at 4100' and parked the bike soon after (two switchbacks from the base camp area, before the cli...
Sing this report to Don Felder's "Taking a Ride" from the "Heavy Metal" Soundtrack.
Load the bikes up, let's cruise to the trail, leave the city far behind
You just might get wet, or at least you’ll sweat
Just meet your buddies right on time
Now if you're ready to ride with...
I just retired from "that airplane company" after 35 years. What better way to celebrate than with great weather and a beautiful climbing trail with a view. I left the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead about 7:15 am (only car there) and began climbing in the clear, 34 degree, morning. Just after the Meadow...
Spent the afternoon climbing to the top of the trail and enjoyed the colorful fall colors in the Baldy Meadow. The last time I was here was when I reported the avalanche debris down the Meadow drainage at the end of May. Now th...
Other than one log in avalanche debris, trail is riding well, especially after recent rain. Upper meadow in good shape since the brush hasn't grown that much yet. Got a clear day and so worth it.
Trail is ridable from the top with a few obsticles. I cleaned the upper machine built section and meadow of medium to large detritus and it's riding ok now but it could use a hoe, some blow, and a few implement to make it shine. If anyone wants to join up for a little more cleaning hit me up as I...
It's still a little early to make it up to the meadow with the snow pack we have right now so I parked down at the powerlines off of highway 2 and proceeded up to the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead. That way I could still get some vertical in before I'm stimied by the snowline (currently around 3250' th...
Some friends did Alpne Baldy on Monday and reported no snow at the top, so I decided to give it a shot on Friday. Big change! After all the rain, the streams were very heavy with at least one requiring walking the bike through. During the last mile or so the ground snow started...
This was my first time on this trail and it won't be the last. Started the ride at 11 AM after a short rain shower. Weather was supposed to improve and it did. A few cars at the trail head but it turns out they were all going for the Beckler's Peak hike. I saw no riders on Alpine Baldy the...
Great time to ride - the 6.2 mile logging road from US2 to the trailhead is annoying but definitely worth it.
The wildflowers are out like fireworks. The bench at the west end of the alpine meadow is a great place for a picnic and didn't even have to use Deet. &nb...
Left the trailhead at 7am in a misty rain and 1/4 mile visibility. There wasn't going to be any awesome views today, just a wet ride. The dirt was well drained. The last report said the avalanche debris field was ridable but there must have been another tree fall there because the trail was block...
The avalanche debris field is rideable, and there's just one tree down on the road to trail part. Rode across one small patch of snow near the top. The Alpine Traverse was spectacular as usual. The only warning is be wary of riding on Sunday because getting back to the Seattle a...
Avalanche debris at 1.5 miles. There's a tunnel under the ice, requiring care when crossing. Trail was snow covered at 4.5 miles in, which is where we turned around.
Started at the trailhead just around 5:30am and in a light rain and in my O2 Rainwear. There are two big trees for the chainsaws at 3100' and 3700'. There was also an avalanche debri pile over one of the drainages that you will n...
Started just after 6am at the trailhead during the break between the convergence zone downpour last night and the next wave this afternoon. Started under lights and watched the sunrise through the trees and high clouds. Needed to cut two 6" alders from the double track (more look like they are fa...
We tried to ride it, but the access road 6066 was closed for re-construction for 2 weeks. Explored local FS roads instead.
Trail is running great, top to bottom. Wildflowers galore in the meadows. The trees mentioned in the previous report have been cleared, so you can pin it all the way from the meadows to the bottom. Hero dirt in the singletrack. Signs posted in the parking lot said the road would be closed 7/8-12,...
It was a damp morning and the light rain gear was the better option. We left the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead and began the climb. There are two trees needing the big saws. One, is a half mile up the double track climb, and the other, is half way up the climbing trail from the base camp to the meadow....
No signage yet at the parking lot, which is shared with the Jennifer Dunn trail (posted No Bikes). The first mile or so is under constructio, diligently being converted/improved from abandoned forrest road to singlettack, but is very ridable, mostly level with a few easy creek crossings. Af...
Wonderful to see road turning into single track! No bugs, lots of smoke.
I parked at the trailhead around 6:30 in the morning and started up the road to discover the current progress of the summit meadow traverse. The views were a little hazy, but take away the smoke, and the views are beautiful! The upper half of the road is getting contoured for more fun on the dece...
The trail is snow free and very dry. The 5 mile road to trail conversion is very rough but rideable except for a couple of downed trees. Three of the stream crossings are allready partially washed out, though still ridable. Use caution or you will fall into deep rocky pits. ...
Until Evergreen or DNR finish with the trails the only ride really available is the road in blue on the overview map. I turned off hwy 2 on to the forest service road and parked about a 1/2 mile in under the power lines. That starts your ride at about 1200 ft. I put the rain gear on and went for t...
