March Trail Highlight: Black Diamond Open Space

Set east of Highway 169 is a rider’s haven of epic and twisty XC trails, rollers, and tight corners—with a trail network that continues to grow and improve. This month’s Trail Highlight is Black Diamond Open Space (BDOS).

Located just south of Henry’s Ridge (separated by the railroad tracks) and north of Summit Ridge, BDOS is known and loved by a committed group that continues to grow. With a variety of rides for many abilities, this well-draining system boasts techy turns through close-growing trees, winding trails, moderate climbs and challenging descents.

And what’s more, BDOS itself is growing with the help of King County Parks and Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance (spurred along by Project Manager Craig Brickser, Ryan Chase, Kevin Kelly, Kole Wetherill, and Cody Olsen).

Just three months into construction on this most-recent phase has already created a stir among the bike community with the drool-worthy photos of new trail coming on line every month.

With the phase goal of a 5-10 mile trail network, BDOS offers an excellent chance to explore some great riding close to the city—and to see another great collaboration with King County Parks.

Be warned: While areas of BDOS are being built out, signage has not been put up yet. Be ready for a navigational challenge and consider packing extra water and a jacket should you take an unanticipated detour.
