Black Diamond Open Space (BDOS)
Info
BDOS (Black Diamond Open Space) is east of Hwy 169 & Lake Sawyer, south of Henry's Ridge (separated by the railroad tracks) and north of Summit Ridge. BDOS offers lots of singletrack and variety, but is mostly based around XC. There's a few freeride and downhill trails here and in the nearby Summit Ridge & Henry's Ridge, but by NW Washington standards, BDOS is pretty flat. The only two downhill trails are Fresh Squeezed (a slightly easier intermediate downhill trail) and Crooshal (the slightly more difficult, and more fun intermediate downhill trail). Fresh Squeezed is a loop with a singletrack climb while to access Crooshal you either use the Fresh Squeezed climb and a Connector, or the Powerline Road climb. There's also lots of XC options at BDOS (covered more in the Navigation tab).
Contact Mike Westra or Ryan Chase if you'd like to help out. Also, check out the Black Diamodn Trails Coalition here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SummitRidgeHerd/about/

There is an 8" DBH dead tree down lying diagonally across the trail. Not a huge job. Other than that, the trails on the east side of HWY 169 are in fine shape. JPG of approximate map location is shown.
Did the 7-mile loop from the east BDOS lot up to Maple Ridge. I saw some recent extensive tree removal [15" diameter cuts] and clean up along Anaconda. Thank you to the County staff or volunteers for that. There was some pesky Himilayan Blackberry in the trail and as usual saggy...
The trails were covered in leaves and we couldn't see any roots! We had a wonderful time. Since it was nearly noon when we finished two hours of riding, we barbecued hot dogs. Such a great way to meet people and enjoy the fall weather.
Honestly more like Blue Square Open Space. There are some listed black runs here with a few features, but other than a jump line in the free ride park it's really an intermediate area. I rode Crooshal, Super Charger and Fresh Squeezed and they're short and flowy. Tribulation is a black and aptly...
Rode on flat and bumpy trails. Went pretty well. More missions than we thought but had fun.
Clear sky, sunny day, and sun barely gets above the trees. Perma-frost on the ground, rite thru the afternoon. Trails solid, very little mud. The service road up on Summitt ridge paasses thru a clear cut area and out into sunlit areas. Cold, but good local riding.
Spent the morning exploring the trails I haven't done before at Black Diamond. I've been away for 2 1/2 years so a lot is new to me here. It was a great time. I started on the west side of hwy 169 then came across and went East then North for a nice 16 mile ride. Dirt was good except for a handfu...
I hit up Black Diamond Open Space both this weekend and last weekend, along with Henry's Ridge (last weekend) and Summit Ridge (this weekend). Everything's in great shape. Lots of cars in the parking lot, but there are so many trails here that it's rare to see other bikers -- I ran into maybe 5 p...
I thought it would be good to give an old guy's point of view on these great trails...I'm 52 and just getting back into the swing of things after many years out of the saddle, and there's a lot of folks like me riding BDOS. There's a ton of fun to be had here, most of the trails are pretty quick...
The trails are doing very good with the moisture that has been falling. With the exception of a couple of mud holes the trails are firm yet grippy. These are such great trails they offer a little something for everybody!
On Sunday I took my son all the way down to BDOS from Kirkland to check out the new trails and let him ride his new birthday bike.
My last trip down there had me wishing for my ancient hardtail since it's a better bike for slow and twisty trails than my AM rig. It wasn't a bad ride by...
With the recently built loop near the parking lot BDOS has become a great option for our family with twin 7 year old girls and a 5 year old boy. It provides instant fun with the new trail starting so close to the parking lot. The trail is in great condition! the free ride park also offers some ea...
