I started around 7am this morning at the bottom of Waterbar Heaven and began climbing it since Bergman Gulch is still closed to mtb due to wildlife newborns. Once I got to the north junction, I went counter clockwise on the Outback and up Mallory’s and saw the deforesting operation still continuing on the hill that’s northwest of the Outback. I continued back to the north junction and then did Dust To Glory, Far East, Grand Drop, Bobs Trail, and finished with Devine Intervention, Shoe and Switchback Alley. The trails were all in good shape!
The bummer today was during the climb on Bob's from the bottom of Somewhere to Ride and heading up to the Bob’s Trail Overlook. After a switchback or two on the climb, laying in the middle of the trail was a deceased fawn. :-( It had been hit in the head and succumbed to its injury. I’m guessing a biker going down fast (instead of climbing as I was) got surprised in the trail and nailed it square with a handlebar. It was rigid so it might have happened a couple days ago. It wasn’t pretty and I moved it off the trail. They are such a beautiful animal and the thought of the loss ruined my demeanor and the rest of my ride. It was an accident, but be aware. The Trailforks Ride Log and pictures (none of the fawn) are here.
