Chestnut Burn Scar and Parasailing This Week

Spending a couple days in the Chelan area for some business so I woke up early and did a run on the Butte before the tasks began. Climbing over to the Butte road using the Winter Traverse route is getting a little annoying. The vegetation is really growing into the double track and there are spots where you must ride through the foliage. Your handlebars aren’t getting grabbed yet but give it a month. It would be nice if Chelan County or DNR could run their mower over the double track for at least the middle third of the length.  I continued to climb on the Butte road and up at the parasail launch site, there were tents and Sani-cans set up for this week’s event going on. No sailors were launching when I got there so I continued to the summit. Once I got to the top, I had to grab some pictures of the Chestnut Fire burn scar. Pretty much was the SE quadrant of the Butte. The towers were saved along with the road and Downhill trail so come get your excitement here when you can. I had a fun run down stopping once for some hikers and then slowing down for the final third of the traverse due to the overgrowth. In another month, the trail will need some brush mitigation for visibility. Some bushes are hiding rocks that might surprise your pedals!

It was a nice, cool, sunny, morning and a wonderful descent. The Trailforks Ride Log and pictures are here.
