Backcountry Maintenance
Status: In Progress
Evergreen’s Methow Chapter is not only about sweet flow trails, berms and jumps (although we love them dearly). The Chapter is also committed to maintaining historic and revered Forest Service system trails. Recent backcountry accomplishments include:
- Over $100,000 and 5,000 volunteer hours invested in backcountry maintenance over the past five years
- Comprehensive brushing of the Twisp River Trail and helping with yearly log-out
- A complete overhaul of the Bear Mountain Trail in 2021 and continued yearly maintenance
- Comprehensive brushing of Middle Fork of Beaver Creek Trail
- Yearly log-out and brushing of Lightning Creek and Blue Buck trails
- Over 40 miles of backcountry trail revitalized throughout the Methow Valley Ranger District
- Yearly Dig Ride Campouts to engage volunteers with backcountry maintenance.
Sawyer Program
After the devastating impacts of the Cedar Creek fire in 2022, the Methow Chapter hosted a sawyer certification class, certifying over 30 volunteers in chainsaw safety and bucking. In addition, we also have one C-level sawyer who can manage complex tree removal and bucking. Currently, our volunteer sawyer team helps with opening up and maintaining Methow Valley trails each spring and summer.
