This week Evergreen West Sound scored a huge win for mountain biking kids, families, and friends in the Poulsbo area.  If you’ve been following the pump track proposal, you know that it’s been a long process—but one that ended with final approval this past Wednesday evening.

Under the supervision of its Director, Brian Kilpatrick, Evergreen West Sound worked hard to rally community support and ensure that families of mountain bikers were well-represented at the series of land use hearings leading up to the decision.  Thanks to their dedication, there was never a lack of Evergreen shirts at public meetings.

poulsbopumptrackplanPoulsbo had been looking for a community group to take over the management of the land in question, which had been acquired by the city late last year.  While the land itself was relatively unused, there were still several other candidates in the running--but ultimately stewardship was awarded to Evergreen.

“This is what we’ve been working towards for the past year and half, to get to this point where we can legitimately get shovel to dirt for our community,” says Kilpatrick “Our members and volunteers just did a great job of building community support and raising awareness around this effort. “

Evergreen West Sound is currently working diligently to get through the permitting process to get kids riding as soon as possible.

“This really shows the desire for more mountain biking recreation statewide,” said Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance Executive Director Glenn Glover “we’ve seen a growing number of communities express interest in expanding mountain bike access, and the work West Sound has done really speaks to that.”
