A Sold-Out Show: the 2015 Sturdy Dirty on Tiger Mountain
A lot happened on Tiger Mountain last month. Timber harvesting, trail work, and—most excitingly—the Sturdy B’s put on their first Tiger Mt. Sturdy Dirty Enduro!
The popular all-women riding event not only sold out (again!), but also held the distinction of being the first to allow expert and pro participants to run the new Tiger descent trail. Boasting nearly 230 participants, the 2015 Sturdy Dirty has flown into its second year with enormous momentum.
The Sturdy Dirty is the brainchild of the 6-year-old Sturdy B all-woman racing team, and offers the chance for women riders of all abilities to race an all-female field. Combining the popular event with Tiger Mountain, a local favorite, the Sturdy B’s held the race in Issaquah at the invitation of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance.
What resulted was a day great runs, costumes, and one of the most exciting women’s-only events that Tiger Mt. has ever seen. With 2700 vertical feet of climbing and over 4.5 miles of racing trail during the 3 stages (experts and pros climbed and additional 1300’ to earn their turns on the new descent trail), the race itself challenged riders with the narrow trees, roots, and drops Tiger is known for.
At the end of the day podiums were filled, good times were had, and the Sturdy B’s presented Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance with a check for $3,000 to build more trail and advocate for mountain biking across Washington.
We would also like to express our thanks to DNR for permitting this event and for their ongoing partnership with Evergreen to create great new trails on Tiger Mtn … and beyond.
Thank you to the Sturdy B’s and Colin Meagher of PinkBike for coverage information: read the full event writeup on PinkBike here.
