We Opened 40+ New Trails in 2024, and We Need Your Support for More in 2025!
The Evergreen team has been hard at work in 2024, expanding ride options and trail networks across the state. Thanks to the dedication of our trail builders and volunteers, we have opened a diverse range of new trails this year, including 2 new full trail systems (The Trek at Tehaleh in Bonney Lake, and Tennant Trailhead Park in North Bend) —from beginner-friendly flow trails to more rugged, technical descents. These new trails reflect not only the skill and commitment of the Evergreen team but also the variety of riding experiences we aim to provide for all types of riders. We are excited to share the results of this work and invite you to explore these new additions! Read on for our top 15 out of 40+ new trails highlighted in this blog post.
Top 15 New Trails We Opened in 2024:
Rhythm & Berms
The Trek at Tehaleh, Bonney Lake
Green/Beginner Flow trail
Reviewed as one of best green trails built at the new Trek at Tehaleh trail system!
This beginner-oriented flow trail is the gateway to all 3 of the freeride/jump trails. After the split, you get a dirt roller-coaster with an emphasis on cornering. Fun for all levels to go as fast or as slow as you want.
Heavy Nettle
The Trek at Tehaleh, Bonney Lake
Blue/Intermediate Tech/cross-country trail
A technical cross-country rider's dream. Roots, off-camber, punchy ups and downs. A fun challenge for everyone to keep you on your toes!
Heavy Nettle is a primitive hand built cross country trail. It was designed as a nod to the old school Victor Falls trails which used to exist in this area.
Expect a challenge; slippery soil, exposed roots, narrow tread, and punchy climbs, and the namesake nettles.
Fast and the Curious: Dual Slalom
The Trek at Tehaleh, Bonney Lake
Blue/Intermediate Flow trail
Whether you're fast or just curious this dual slalom lets you test your skills against your friends. It has a little of everything, and it is all rollable.
Some groomed corners and jumps are intermixed with non-groomed areas. This trail finishes up with BMX-style step-ups at the bottom. Wonder which side is faster?... Race your friend or ride it solo, and let us know what you think!
Ursus
Loup Loup Ski Bowl, Methow
Spicy blue/black Intermediate/Advanced Tech trail
This new 1.2 mile descent trail has a little of everything, all the best of the Methow: rock slabs, features and great views. Upper Ursus is riding more like a black, so ride with caution and scout where applicable.
Did you know the Methow Chapter spent over 10 years working with the Methow Valley Ranger District to permit these trails at Loup Loup?
Oso Peligroso
Loup Loup Ski Bowl, Methow
Blue tech trail
Oso Peligroso is the Methow’s brand new blue/intermediate 2-mile descent trail packed to the brim with rock features, small to medium size hits, and some speedy sections for good measure. This scenic trail rides through huge terrain, golden larches in the fall, and rock outcroppings; offering intermediate riders plenty of opportunities for progression while still challenging those with more advanced skills. Beware, while riding this trail, you were not magically transported to British Columbia... That’s just how some parts of the Okanogan look!
Lower Mica Peak Trail
Liberty Lake Regional Park Spokane
Backcountry Climb/Downhill Flow
Singletrack has emerged on the west side of Liberty Creek thanks to the hard work in the East Chapter!
If you've ever braved the steep, rutted, and rocky climb of the Edith Hansen Trail, you're in for a treat. This June, our incredible Evergreen East crew finished a new climbing segment, the Lower Mica Peak Trail, to bypass the most challenging section of Edith Hansen. This 1.5-mile trail climbs over 700 feet, offering a more manageable ascent while still providing a good workout. The trail, designed for both bikers and hikers, meanders through lush forests, open meadows, and past fascinating rock formations, leading to one of the best views of Liberty Lake.
Ferdinand the Bull
Raging River, North Bend
Blue/Intermediate Tech trail
Ferdinand the Bull is a blue descent trail with a few black diamond options that opened in June as part of our Raging River Phase 3 new trails. This hand-built trail was led by our Trail Builder Sean Sweeney, along with the help of our incredible volunteers. This is a great trail for intermediate riders wanting to step up to some natural roots and gnar. The faster you go, the spicier it gets…
Executive Decision
Raging River, North Bend
Blue/Intermediate flow trail
This is one of the new Raging Phase 3 downhill trails that opened on June 8, 2024 during our Evergreen Mountain Bike Festival. The upper 2 sections are machine-built – wide, buffed, bermy & flowy that get faster and more jumpy as you work your way down. The lower 2 sections are rough, raw, hand-built and more technical.
Everything is rollable, as slow as you want to roll, so this is a great trail for newer intermediate riders wanting to build skills on everything from small jumps and berms, to gaining speed pumping rollers, to roots and gnar.
This trail is named in honor of departing Executive Director of Evergreen, Yvonne Kraus.
Jumping Frog
Tennant Trailhead Park, North Bend
Black/Advanced Flow/Jump trail
This short but sweet flow / jump line packs the fun into a 643 foot descent. Great trail for intermediate riders to level up. There are no mandatory gaps, just tabletop jumps built for progression.
Elk
Tennant Trailhead Park, North Bend
Black/Advanced Tech trail
Loamy, technical trail with all the features you can hope for. Starts with a nice big rock to climb on and roll down, followed by a tabletop, a gap jump and then a set of technical rock/root garden and drops. The remaining varies between berms, technical, minor jumps and small drops until the end with you finish with a few fairly big berms and jumps.
This trail has a few additional optional lines that you can go to, including Bobcat, Cougar, and a few unnamed ones. They vary from black to double black in difficulty, and are all loamy, technical trails.
Great Space Coaster ("new blue jump line") (full rebuild)
Duthie Hill, Issaquah
Blue/Intermediate Flow/jump trail
We recognize that riding styles have changed, bikes have evolved, and the demand for progression at Duthie has only increased. The Duthie Refresh project provided us with the opportunity to address the need for extra steps in the progression at Duthie by reimagining the Space Coaster trail.
We decided that we wanted to build a tabletop line that would fit somewhere between Luna and Gravy Train in terms of feature size and overall difficulty. The original Space Coaster corridor didn't leave enough space for this change so we built the new "Coaster" next to it and revised the entrance to reduce user conflict at the top. This does mean that the old Space Coaster trail will need to be decommissioned to comply with our agreement with KC Parks. Decommissioning work will be done fall/winter of 24/25.
GHY (full rebuild)
Duthie Hill, Issaquah
Double black jump trail
The GHY Jump Line at Duthie Hill was transformed by an all-women crew, co-led by Nikki and Julia, making history through a complete redesign and rebuild of this legendary double-black line. Supported by Evergreen builders like Matt and the original builder AJ, the team worked over several weeks to reshape one of Duthie’s old trail, originally designed for BMX and dirt jump bikes. The new GHY line opened as a progressive, inclusive space with jumps that grew in size as riders advanced, providing both seasoned jumpers and those still mastering gaps with an exciting, challenging ride.
Upper Big Sandy Trail
Teanaway Community Forest, Cle Elum
Blue/Intermediate two-way trail
This is a two-way multi-use trail, 4.1 miles and 1,000+ feet of descent; built with the uphill experience in mind. This is a huge improvement to the climbing trail options in the Teanaway area; offering a more gradual, enjoyable climb. This trail ends at the top of Upper Rat Pac and Pauls Trail on the Cle Elum Ridge (starts at intersection with the BST and Carlson Tie trails). The trail is mostly in the shade and has good grades for climbing and good sightlines for descending. Exposed portions of the trail can be loose and sandy in the summer. Thanks to the Kittitas Chapter, volunteers, as well as WTA and the Mountains to Sound Greenway for making this trail possible.
Bouncy House
The Summit at Snoqualmie Bike Park, Snoqualmie Pass
Blue/Intermediate Flow trail (lift-serviced)
Bouncy House is a great example of partnership between Evergreen and The Summit at Snoqualmie Trail Crews. The upper half was built by the Summit crew and the lower built by Evergreen. This partnership is a key component of the development of the park allowing for faster build times.
Bouncy House is a blue flow trail with a mix of rollers, berms and the occasional sneaky gaps and jib. The layout and usage of rollers is exciting for riders intermediate to advanced. The trail progressively becomes steeper and faster as you travel down hill. As speed increases so does the size of the berms. These are some of the most supportive berms in the park.
Overall the terrain in this zone is much steeper than we typically look for in building a blue flow trail. Extra time was spent with clinometers making adjustments to the flagline. A few key alignment changes were made to reduce speed through the corners in an effort to reduce maintenance.
Another highlight of this build was the usage of a custom ordered sifting bucket on the excavator. This allowed us to remove large amounts of rock from the soil and create a smoother riding surface. The common Snoqualmie Pass challenges of steep terrain and rocky soil make flow trails very difficult to build. Our crew worked very hard to make the most of this challenging build!
My Little Friend
The Summit at Snoqualmie Bike Park, Snoqualmie Pass
Blue/Black Intermediate/Advanced Tech trail (lift-serviced)
This is a Snoqualmie Pass classic with steep, rooty and rocky lines beneath the thick canopy of mountain hemlock.
My Little Friend was a preexisting legacy trail from the original bike park and local riders. Our goal was to improve sustainability and update this trail to give a more modern flow. The upper segment uses smooth machine built flow and hand built sections to blend natural tech with enough speed to make it through the flatter segments without pedaling. Optional lines and features keep both intermediate and advanced riders engaged.
Moving into the lower segment the trail transitions to a black tech trail maintaining a lot of the raw natural character of the preexisting line. Alignment adjustments were made to improve sustainability and eliminate the fall line creek bed that eroded the original trail during rainstorms and spring snow melt. Additionally, a ride around option was added at the most technical rock chute to make the trail accessible to more riders and facilitate progression.
Building this line presented many challenges. Steep terrain and abundant bedrock made for difficult digging in the excavator providing some precarious scenarios. Patience and persistence was needed to complete this segment and keep the excavator rubber side down. As always, the endless amounts of rock at The Summit would challenge hand work. Evergreen completed construction in the fall of 2023, allowing the deep winter snow pack to help compact and bed in this trail before receiving heavy bike park traffic. In the Summer of 2024 The Summit Trail Crew hand milled and completed the bridge for the official opening mid-season.
Fund the Adventure
As Evergreen reflects on these accomplishments, our "Fund the Adventure" end-of-year fundraiser launches on Giving Tuesday, December 3, aiming to raise $260,000 by December 31st to support future trail building, maintenance, and community programs. Please consider making a donation to Fund the Adventure and ensure new and improved trails in 2025.
