Evergreen Trail Etiquette Days: Power in Promoting Politeness

What’s the most important part of mountain biking?  Smiling.

Well, not exactly, but as anyone who has shared a trail knows, a little politeness  can go a long way. That’s why last weekend on Grand Ridge Evergreen partnered with Washington Trail Association and King County Parks for our first-ever Trail Etiquette Day.

While the weather was a little rainy we still had some great conversations with hikers, bikers, and runners about their experiences sharing the trail (though having hot drinks and cookies probably didn’t hurt).

The point of Etiquette Days is to promote considerate trail behavior between user groups—a skill that Evergreen members excel at. But a little review is always good (for instance, do you know what to do when you’re coming riding downhill and meet an equestrian?). Some of the best news we got that day was hearing all the positive things most hikers had to say about mountain bikers—great work Grand Ridge riders!

So keep an eye out for more Trail Etiquette Days in the future, and if you have a suggestion about a good place to have one, send us a line! In the meantime, we’ll have our Trail Etiquette brochure (and our hot cocoa) at the ready and hope you’ll continue riding safe, playing nice—and smiling!
