Eastside Catholic Volunteers at Duthie for Peace and Justice Day of Service
The Evergreen Trails Crew gets to meet a lot of people at trailwork parties: great, enthusiastic folks eager to build trail, make friends, and give back to the community. But with so many build events happening, we sometimes forget to highlight the partnerships and hard work that takes place with local schools and youth programs!
Last week Ryan, Kole, and Bryan of the Duthie Hill Bike Park Crew received a hand from the students at Eastside Catholic School. Participating in the school-wide Peace and Justice Day of Service, the Eastside Catholic volunteers were one of thirty-eight groups that engaged in service-related activities throughout the greater Seattle area on March 19th.
The EC students performed some great work on several sections of trail and a few large jumps. Afterwards they were thoughtful enough to send us a few notes—here are some of our favorites:
“Dear Crew, thank you for being cool guys when working on the trail. I liked looking at the jumps in astonishment at just how much dirt we moved. Keep being awesome!” –Clayton
“Thank you for the time you spend with our group and the Clif Bars! We had fun and enjoyed helping to fix the trails!” –Sarah
“After our day was over I was glad to see that we made that jump and landing for the bikers. For me at least I get to see the effects of my labor at the end of the day which was inspiring.” –Evan
“It was cool to see how invested you guys are in the trails. Thanks again.” –Arend
“Thanks for the Clif Bars.” –Morgan
We were thankful to have the hard work of all the Eastside Catholic Students, and invite them back any time. Thanks to them for thinking of Evergreen for the Peace and Justice Day of Service--we’ll have the Clif Bars ready and waiting for them next year.
