Buckets, Grit, and Community Power: Cheasty Work Party Wrap-Up

Volunteers formed a gravel-moving force of nature at Cheasty Greenspace. Together, they tackled one of two long gravel ditches needed to complete the north loop of the Cheasty mountain bike trail system.

On Saturday, May 31, more than 60 volunteers — mostly Amazon staff — rolled up their sleeves, grabbed a bucket, and formed a gravel-moving force of nature at Cheasty Greenspace. Together, they tackled one of two long gravel ditches needed to complete the north loop of the Cheasty mountain bike trail system.

Their strategy of choice? The ever-satisfying bucket brigade.

What started as a pile of rock and a daunting trench turned into tangible progress — one gravel ditch filled, one step closer to a fully rideable loop.

This work party marked the final event in Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering, and we couldn’t imagine a more energizing way to wrap it up. With over 350 Amazon employees volunteering throughout the month, this partnership helped move multiple community-led projects forward across the city — and we’re proud Cheasty was one of them.

Seattle Parks Foundation Chief Operating Officer Kristen Milliron summed it up best: “Your hard work will finish the north loop of mountain bike trails! Friends of Cheasty Greenspace has been working for decades to restore this area and expand access to safe, usable public space. This is what community-led change looks like.”

Big shoutout to our incredible partners:

  • Seattle Parks Foundation for championing equitable public space and supporting over 300 community-led projects in the last 25 years

  • Friends of Cheasty Greenspace for their decades of trail work and vision

  • Amazon for long-standing support (over $1M contributed to community projects!) and for bringing out a powerhouse volunteer crew

  • Intel for fueling the day — with coffee, water bottles, snacks, lunch, and good vibes that made everyone feel supported and energized

What’s next?
We’ve still got one more gravel ditch to fill — and we’ll need another solid crew to help us cross the finish line.

Want in? Keep an eye out for our next work party here.
