Six Months Since My Last West-side Ride
The last time I rode a trail on the west side of the Cascades was back in the first week in May during the time of the 'Raging River' Zebras! I finally got a break from elder care and had some time to get away from the Eastern Cascade snow in Chelan's trail systems and came back home to SE Everett and rode the Japanese Gulch today in the damp trails after the morning thaw. The roots were wet and dicy and the trail was grippy when not leafy or soft in tiny spots. Some of the bridges were a bit greasy but managable and the ride as a whole was very enjoyable. The one bummer was a little vandalism done on the Family Guy jump line where the deadbeats took the picnic table and threw it onto a middle landing of the main jump line. I moved it to the side of the trail but the clay was too slick, and table too heavy, to bring it back up to the plateau and reset it.
It will take a couple more folks on the next work party to carry the bulky item up to where it should be. The trails are in great shape and you will enjoy the wonderful improvements done to the trails this Summer at the Gulch. The Trailforks ride log and table pics are here.
