Outback off limits soon? Only La Niña knows!

With the recent wind, rain and snow, I went to Echo Ridge to enjoy the sunny weather aftermath and see what trails needed to be cleared. I parked at the bottom of Waterbar Heaven and climbed Bergman Gulch and began the Outback counterclockwise. The Outback had frost initially and as I climbed and went around the north side, it turned into about 1-3 inches of crusty snow with hunter foot prints and one or two bike tracks from yesterday. Before I got to Mallory’s, I had to clear three different 6” tree falls. One I had to saw, the others were uprooted and free enough to move off of the trail. Outback is clear, just northern exposure snow. I tried to go up Mallory’s but it was 4” and a hassle so I gave up and continued around Outback. The descent was awesome and continuing into the Waterbar Heaven descent was a joy. Soils were hero if they weren't frozen.

I climbed back up Bergman and started on Dust To Glory where I cleared a couple more trees. Dust to Glory still has a chainsaw job in the west half of the bypassed section and another chainsaw job southeast of the bypass about 100 yards. The trail only had a small amount of snow in northern facing areas but was fine. Far East was awesome and Grand Drop has one chainsaw tree job or a multi- person move. This tree can be bunny hopped if you desire. Bob’s trail was a joy and a complete 5 deer family was sunning themselves in one of the meadows! I had a front tire washout at the other end of Bobs near the rest stop. :-(

I finished the ride with Devine Intervention, The Shoe, and Switchback Alley. Great tall grass cutting on The Shoe! Do the grasses on Waterbar Heaven if you can! It was a great ride and the Trailforks ride log has the tree pictures here.
