Highest MTB Ride I’ve Had in WA
Today’s goal was to get to the top of Pyramid Mountain (8261’) on the west side of Lake Chelan, and northwest of 25 mile State Park by about 15 miles. I got out of Manson about 5am and around the lake to begin the drive on Shady Pass road (FS 5900). After clearing a three-tree road block, and a pretty, rosy, sunrise,
I got to the Pyramid Mountain trailhead around 7am. I got all my gear together, and was riding by 7:20. The Out-and-Back has many ups and downs, so save your energy for those climbs at the end of the ride. There are places along the route where rock formations and narrow trail rutting will cause pedal strikes or discontinuities in your climbs and an occasional hike-a-bike or dabbing will be required. The last 1000’ of vertical to the Pyramid Mountain summit is fine for climbing but getting your bike that far will take a lot of extra work. The views are wonderful up there and the Trailforks Ride Log with pictures is here.
