The Development Director will lead Evergreen's advancement initiatives and development events to address both the short- and long-term needs of the organization. This role involves establishing fundraising goals by engaging a robust donor network and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and industry partners. We are looking for someone who understands non-profit development and has experience soliciting meaningful contributions during in-person engagements. The ideal candidate will share a commitment to Washington State's mountain biking community and trails and believe in Evergreen's mission to make Washington the best place to ride.

Working at Evergreen
The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance was originally formed over 30 years ago in response to the need for rider advocacy and trails in the Seattle area. Now a statewide organization, we continue to rely on our volunteer trail builders and chapter leaders to deliver our organization's mission and vision, with the administrative team supporting that work. Our workplace is mostly hybrid, with an office in North Bend, WA. The team culture is centered around cross-departmental collaboration, effective communication, diligence and hustle, and maintaining a healthy balance of life and professional priorities. We are also a team of avid riders, outdoor recreationists, and lovers of our wild places.
This is a full-time position requiring evenings and weekends, including travel throughout Washington State to visit volunteers, donors, and industry partners and attend organizational events. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Organizational Leadership
- The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and will be a key member of the leadership team with influence in all parts of the organization.
- Actively participate in Evergreen’s activities, including staff retreats, events, and site visits.
- Collaborate with and support the Executive Director (ED) and Board of Directors in setting and achieving development strategies, ensuring they have the tools to be effective ambassadors for the organization.
- Partner with the ED and leadership team to identify resource development priorities, ensuring alignment with funding opportunities and organizational goals.
- Foster an organizational culture of philanthropy where fundraising is embraced as an essential part of building Evergreen’s community and advancing its mission.
Development and Fundraising Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with Evergreen’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
- Track and manage all major donors and establish a high level of personal engagement with those in your portfolio.
- Knowledge and adherence to fundraising best practices and policies.
- Support and coach volunteers and staff with fundraising initiatives and action plans.
- Track campaign results and metrics to track fundraising tactics and successes and provide summary reports of campaigns to the ED and Board of Directors.
- Foster an environment of inclusivity, understanding, and engagement for anyone interested in mountain biking, trails, volunteerism, and/or natural resource conservation, particularly within underrepresented communities and for individuals who seek trail experiences requiring adaptive bikes.
Ideal Candidate
You are deeply passionate about Evergreen’s mission and vision, and committed to fostering equity within the organization and the broader community. You bring a minimum of three years of leadership experience, with a proven track record of innovation in development and fundraising strategies.
You are also:
- An effective communicator through writing and in-person presentations.
- Familiar with the donor Moves Management process.
- Passionate about building relationships and serving as an exceptional team leader, committed to supporting others in reaching their full potential within a culture that emphasizes feedback, shared learning, and continuous professional development.
- You bring a personal connection to mountain biking and an understanding of the culture, challenges, and benefits of the sport and the community.
- Experience with coordinating and executing medium to large-scale public-facing events.

Minimum Qualifications
- Accomplished development history, with preferred experience in the outdoor recreation and/or natural resource conservation industry in either the private or non-profit sector.
- Background and passion for volunteer engagement and coordination.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with In-person and virtual community event production.
- Ability to learn new technology and tasks quickly and independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and reliable personal transportation.
- Candidates will be subject to a background check. Any issues that surfaced will be managed on a case-by-case basis.

Employment Offer & Agreement
The Development Director is a full-time, exempt position with flexible work hours and the ability to work remotely. The salary range is $77,000 - $81,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
Benefits include:
- Eleven holidays (88 hours) paid holidays off per year.
- Twenty days (160 hours) of personal time off per year.
- $200/pay period stipend to assist with health care premiums.
- $35/pay period communications stipend for mobile phone and internet account assistance.
- A one-time start-up technology purchase reimbursement of $700 for new employee home office and/or technology set-up.
- Annual tech upgrades of up to $500 upon pre-approval, based on yearly equipment needs and requests.
- Up to $1,500 annual reimbursement for continued education.
- Up to $200 annual reimbursement for personal workwear.
- Mileage reimbursements for meetings and events across the state and outside of regular non-reimbursable commute travel to the office.

Evergreen employees collaborate on their own computers, using Google Suite and Office 365. We will help you with any questions regarding Affordable Health Care Act options and are available to review Health Care premiums should they be limited and/or differ significantly from the stipend offered.
Location: North Bend, WA. Remote work locations are assumed and permitted, with a recommended 1-day week office day, mandatory in-person planning meetings and retreats, and Board retreat attendance at various locations throughout the state.
