You can park at Duthie's brand new parking lot that King County recently completed! It is located at 26150 SE Issaquah-Fall City Rd, just off of Duthie Hill Road. Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can start class promptly.

Dirt Camps

Which Camp is Right for Me?

Please read through each description carefully to determine the best camp for your young shredder. While we try to break into groups based on ability, your child will have the most enjoyable time if you find the right level. Still unsure? Feel free to reach out at 

Camp Levels

Beginner: Level 1 - 2
Intermediate: Level 2 - 3
Advanced: Level 4 - 5

Level Descriptions

Level 1:

  • Little to no time spent on dirt trails but at least one year of bike riding experience
  • Brand new to mountain biking but comfortable on moderate grades while riding on the street
  • You are comfortable riding around the neighborhood on your bike but maybe not comfortable with steeper grades both ascending and descending. You can shift and brake well while riding but want to branch off riding on the streets and get your bike dirty on some mountain bike trails!
  • Example Trails:
    • Duthie: Bootcamp, Honey Badger, Pump Track
    • Squilchuck: Tiger Lily, Vulture’s Gulch
    • Ski Hill: Magic Carpet, Fluid

Level 2:

  • Less than a year riding a bike on dirt trails
  • You’ve been mountain biking a few times but haven't pushed yourself farther than most of the greens and some blues at your local trailhead.
  • You are comfortable with riding on both dirt trails and on the road at moderate grades. You've started to branch out from the easiest terrain at the local trailhead but are still feeling a bit nervous committing to all those blue trails and haven't started to do jumps or drops yet.
  • Should be confident riding on the following trails:
    • Duthie: Bootcamp, Honey Badger, Pump Track, Deuces Wild, Movin On, Step it Up
    • Squilchuck: Tiger Lily, Vulture’s Gulch, Creature Comfort
    • Ski Hill: Magic Carpet, Fluid

Level 3:

  • 1-3 years of experience riding a bike on mountain bike trails.
  • Has been mountain biking somewhat consistently for over a year, feels comfortable on most green and blue trails, you've also started doing drops less than a foot in size and some small table style jumps but aren't comfortable in the air yet.
  • Example Trails:
    • Duthie (should be confident riding these trails): Bootcamp, Honey Badger, Pump Track, Deuces Wild, Movin On, Step it Up, Lune Lines, Jabulani (2Hi)
    • Squilchuck (ready to start working on these trails): Yellow Jacket, Twisted Giant, Dark Forest
    • Ski Hill (ready to start working on these trails): 4 the Boys, Lower Rosy Boa, Freund, New Uphill Trail

Level 4:

  • 2-4 years of experience riding a bike on mountain bike trails.
  • Has been riding consistently for over 2 years and is comfortable hitting drops up to 2 feet tall. Also comfortable on most table top jumps and is starting to take interest in working on gap jumps. Confident overall bike handling skills.
  • Example Trails:
    • Duthie (should be confident riding these trails): Bootcamp, Honey Badger, Pump Track, Deuces Wild, Movin On, Step it Up, Luna Lines, Jabulani (2Hi), Voodoo, Top of Flying Squirrel
    • Squilchuck (working on these trails): Yellow Jacket, Twisted Giant, Dark Forest
    • Ski Hill (working on these trails): 4 the Boys, Lower Rosy Boa, Freund, New Uphill Trail

Level 5:

  • 3+ years of mountain bike riding experience
  • Has been riding consistently for over 3 years and is comfortable hitting drops up to 3+ feet tall. Also comfortable on all table top jumps, smaller gap jumps, and is starting to take interest in working on larger gap jumps. Confident overall bike handling skills and knows their own riding limits.
  • Duthie Trails (Confident Riding On): Bootcamp, Honey Badger, Pump Track, Deuces Wild, Movin On, Step it Up, Luna Lines, Jabulani (2Hi), Voodoo, Top of Flying Squirrel, Working on starting Gravy Train and or HLC

Level 6 (not currently offered through Evergreen camps or classes):

  • 5+ years of mountain bike riding experience
  • Comfortable on all trails from green to black difficulty. An experienced and confident rider who is looking to push their riding to the highest level at the local trailhead.
  • Duthie Trails (Confident Riding On): Bootcamp, Honey Badger, Pump Track, Deuces Wild, Movin On, Step it Up, Luna Lines, Jabulani (2Hi), Voodoo, Gravy Train, HLC, Flying Squirrel.
  • Someone riding at this ability is above Evergreen’s current offerings. You may make a great coach for our programs! Reach out to if you’re interested in a summer coaching job.

  • You are comfortable riding around the neighborhood on your bike but maybe not comfortable with steeper grades both ascending and descending. You can shift and brake well while riding but want to branch off from riding on the streets and get your bike dirty on some mountain bike trails!
  • Physically able to ride consistently for 1-2 hours at a time (with breaks), or about 4-6 miles and less than 1000ft of gain

Level 2:

  • Have been mountain biking several times but haven't pushed yourself farther than most of the greens at your local trailhead.
  • You are comfortable with riding on dirt trails at moderate grades up and downhill.
  • You've started to branch out from the easiest terrain at the local trailhead but are still feeling a bit nervous committing to most blue trails and anything steeper or with technical features.
  • Physically able to ride consistently for 1-2 hours at a time (with breaks), or about 4-6 miles and less than 1000ft of gain

Level 3:

  • 1-3 years of experience riding a bike on mountain bike trails.
  • Feel comfortable on most green and some blue trails but might still be getting stuck on features like corners, steeper sections, roots or rocks. You’re not yet comfortable with air.
  • Physically able to ride consistently for 2-3 hours at a time (with breaks), or about 5-8 miles and less than 2000ft of gain

Level 4:

  • Consistent time on a mountain bike over multiple seasons. You regularly ride 1+ times / week during the season
  • Feel comfortable on greens and blues and might be starting to ride some blacks but still need to walk more technical or steeper sections. Might be starting to play with getting air but not sure of the mechanics of drops & jumps yet.
  • Physically able to ride consistently for 2-3 hours at a time (with breaks), and about 8-10 miles and ~1500ft of gain

Someone riding above these levels may be best suited for a private lesson. Or you might make a great volunteer instructor to help teach our programs! Reach out to if you’re interested in learning more.

We have an excellent crew of head coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer student mentors this summer. They will be great role models for your campers, both in mountain bike skills and life skills.
