Evergreen has over 100 instructors around the state teaching classes and youth camps!

These instructors are trained through Evergreen's Instructor Certification Program, and qualified to progress students through fundamentals and advanced skills in progressive, trail-focused, and fun class environments.

Read on to hear a bit more about our education program from our Volunteer Instructor of the month, Brian Kilpatrick!

How did you first get into mountain biking?

I’ve had a bike for as long as I can remember. I still vividly recall the first time I rode without training wheels—I just kept going and my mom couldn’t catch me! Fast-forward to when I was about 23 years old; I went through some pretty traumatic experiences and turned to bikes for solace. I bought a Specialized Hardrock, and I’ve been riding ever since.

What do you like about being an instructor with Evergreen?

For me it’s about the people and watching biking change their lives. The best feedback I hear is when someone says, “This went from terrifying to fun,” all within the span of one class. That’s something really special.

From the student's perspective, they said "Brian was amazing! Such attention to detail and a positive attitude!"

Why should someone take a class with Evergreen?

I’ve seen even the most talented riders learn a basic skill that transforms their riding. Whether you’re an experienced rider or a total beginner, there’s always something to learn. Plus, the benefits you gain translate directly into more enjoyable rides.

Fun fact! Brian was the West Sound Chapter's first president and the lead advocate working with Forterra to get recreation access at Port Gamble. Go, Brian!
