New Record For Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day
Last Saturday Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance presented the annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day festival, with parents and young riders as far as Walla Walla coming to King County’s Duthie Hill Park to join in the festivities. With the perfect weather we’d expected to have close to 400 participants—however, Take a Kid wrapped up with a record 600+ participants throughout the day!
Evergreen couldn’t be more excited. A growing percentage of participants are first-time Duthie visitors (and several first-time riders!) and had nothing but positive things to say about their experiences.
Throughout the day Evergreen Instructors ran packed mini skills clinics with dozens of eager young riders. The two pump track challenges were just as popular, as were the guided rides led by the Evergreen Dirt Camp program, the Washington Student League, the Evergreen Crank Sisters, Sweetlines’ Junior Team, and Project 529. The Sweetlines Jump Show was a crowd pleaser as always, and the team from Gregg’s Cycle went above and beyond with their BBQ lunch, serving over 550 lunches throughout the day!
Raffle time kept the excitment going with prizes ranging from Second Ascent and Trek Bicycle Store gift cards to bikes given away by Diamondback (a Line 24 youth bike) and Dirt Merchant Bikes (a Cleary Hedgehog).
The day was a huge success and we want to thank everyone for coming out to ride with us.
We also want to give special thanks to all our volunteers who helped make the day run so smoothly, to our partners at King County, whose support allows this event to happen every year, to all the supporting shops (see a list of who came out below) and MTB groups, and of course, to the families who came out to share the day with us. Thanks again, and we hope to see you next year!
