The Novice Area Grand Opening was a huge success! Thanks a ton for all your help! Now head on down there... lotsa fun stuff to play on and lotsa opportunities to build a few skills.

My focus will now shift to Phase 2, and we already have some good news... the city has approved the high level design concept. For more info and a concept map go to the Colonnade Phase 2 Page. The first steps are:

  • Finalize the project plan with scope, schedule, budget, etc
  • Do the detailed design (we're looking for help designing several trails/areas)
  • Get the final city approval mid-to-late Oct
  • Start digging before Nov 1

Although I won't post any formal work parties in the Novice area, I'll still be working on a few things:

  • Tips'n'tricks maps for the Trail Wiki page
  • Ongoing maintenance plan
  • Prioritized list of potential enhancements (zap me an email with any ideas)
  • Signage (in conjunction with Phase 2)
  • Address any safety issues

Also, a few crew leaders and volunteers have expressed an interest in doing a few enhancements of their own to the Novice Area. It's addictive! So if you're in the mood to work on the Novice Area over the next month, just let me, Art, Jon or one of the crew leaders know.

Cheers,

Special Thanks

There are too many to mention everyone individually, but we'd like to give a special thanks to just a few of our awesome volunteers...

  • Dave Schuldt -- over 50 work parties in the past year! Couldn't have done it without you.
  • Stacy Birk -- over 30 work parties in the past year! Couldn't have done it without you.
  • Joel Lavin -- for the awesome G-Line ladder bridge deck and the middle terrace safety rails
  • Tim Banning -- for numerous awesome TTFs including knee-jerk, home-wrecker, grandma's bridge & more
  • Mick Kavran (aka "the Cobbler") -- for awesome TTFs in the NE Flats area and the longest ladder bridge
  • Walt Sholund -- for hundreds of feet of awesome retaining walls
  • Chris "No More #$*! Cobble" Welsh -- for too much rock movin', cobble haulin' & dirt diggin' to mention.
  • Ross Cattelan -- for the awesome graphics and leading all those work parties
  • Jim Neff -- for our very first log ride and for leading all those work parties
  • And, of course, I (we all) can't thank Art Tuftee enough for donating a huge chunk of his life to Colonnade. It could never have happened without Art. My favorite of Art's features is the boulder chute (or is it a drop?) from the upper terrace down to the lower terrace. The compliments from riders never stop... "how did you get those boulders to line up so perfectly?"
