BBTC Trail Team
The BBTC trail crew works hard to build, improve, and maintain the mountain bike trails we love. We currently concentrate on trails located on publicly owned land.
Work Party Info
Work parties are ongoing and can be found on the calendar.
If you'd like to be notified when the dates are set, please send an email to the trail team.
What kind of work can I expect?
The work we do varies a lot from event to event. Sometimes we'll be working on the tread, digging, scraping, shoveling, re-shaping, and compacting. Some days we'll move a
lot of rock with wheelbarrows or power toters. On Tiger, often we'll work with rock to build up the trail tread to make it more resilient to both tires and water. We'll also look for
places where we can reshape the tread to shed water off the trail by building dips and rises. On larger work parties, many of these things will go on at the same time, and
volunteers will have a chance to choose what they prefer to do, or to try different task and different tools. We break into small groups of 4-5 volunteers, each group tackling a
specific task guided by an assistant Crew Leader; we encourage groups to discuss the why and how of their project.
What should I wear or bring to a work party?
Minimal outfit:
- Long Pants
- Long Sleeves
- Sturdy Boots or Shoes
- Work Gloves
- Water
- Lunch
Gardening gloves with a good grip work well. You may like to bring protective eyewear with clear lenses, and a rain jacket. At some work parties we may provide snacks at the trailhead, but you should always have some water and food with you.
Don't bring your own tools, unless the work party will focus on brushing, in which case clippers, garden sheers, etc. can come in handy. Please feel free to contact your crew leader with any questions that you may have.
