Lots of climbing and really fun descents.
This ride will be moderate pace but we will wait at intersections for everyone. that being said, this ride has a moderate amount of climbing, so be prepared.
When we get to the top, we will take a 20 to 30 minutes break at the top, if you have never been, there is a fantastic view from the top. Great place to have a snack and enjoy the view.
I know this area pretty well, but there are a few trails I have never been on, so if we want, we may do a little exploring.
We will ride 2 1/2 to 3 hours. (Click for more info)

Planning on riding one of the classic rides in the Taneum Cr area (south of Cle Elum).
Distance is 15 to 20 miles depending on how much time we have. Either way we get a
good climb at the start (about 1500 ft) and then down Fishhook Flats Trail and then down
N Fork Taneum Cr Trail. Fun,Fun,Fun. Some recent rain should make the trail nice and not
so dusty. Shooting for 3 to 4 hours of riding.
E-mail me if interested and we can work out carpooling. |

This is a great opportunity to help fulfill the trail work commitment for this trail while also having a fun weekend campout! We'll work the trail on Saturday, camp near the trailhead that evening with a BBQ provided, and then Sunday we'll ride the trail. There'll be different ride groups as appropriate depending on skill level and how far people want to ride.
This is an incredible trail in a beautiful area and it it important that the mountain bike community do its part to keep it open. In fact for most of the upper section the only usage is bikers so without our effort it may become unridable.
Don't be intimidated if you've never done trail work before. Every level of experience and strength is useful and needed!
You don't have to spend the weekend if you dont want to but you'll miss out! Seriously, just come for the work party if that is all your schedule allows. |

This is supposed to be one helluva awesome high country ride... I haven't ridden it but many people rave about it. I actually hiked a small portion of it, many years ago, and have been wanting to ride it.
Unfortunately though it's supposedly really, really overgrown (thanks for the recent report, Mire) so I figured I'd go do a day of trail work, camp, and then ride it the next day! Come for trailwork, or ride, or both, whatevers. All good.
Bring brushing tools if you got 'em: pruning shears, loppers, etc. If you sign up, please email me regarding what tools, if any, you're bringing. Also, bring gloves and eye protection; leather gloves especially recommended; supposedly there's lots of devil's club on parts of the trail.
Let's meet at that first mini-mart you come to (on the right side of the road) in the town of Ashford at 9:00 AM; this is about two hours drive from Seattle. Then we'll caravan to the trail head.
Heavy rain cancels.

The time has come to ride the Tiger. If you have finished the level 2 Boot Camp and are ready to put those trail skills to use, we will show you around a true metropolitan gem of a trail.
This is a 3 ride series so you can have the option of riding one day to learn the trails or ride 2 or 3 days to see how your skills improve.
We will ride Preston and NW Timber trails and save Iverson for another time. Its a 3.5 mile dirt road climb to the top, followed by a 4 mile downhill filled with switchbacks, rocks, roots and a menagerie of technical obstacles. There is a bail-out option between Preston and NW Timber if necessary. NW Timber is a classic cascade mountain side trail that rolls up and down all the way to the parking lot.
This is a long ride, 11.6 miles so bring food, beverages, and a jacket. This will be a social, but steady, paced ride with “do over” options as time permits. No one will be left behind.
This ride is open to boot camp level 2 grads.... But wait! You’ve never taken boot camp level 2? Well, there is one on 8/29, and one on 9/12.

This ride is mainly designed to introoduce intermediate riders who are regulars at local trail systems but want to try real backcountry trails that are relatively shorter and more accessible than some of the intimidatingly uber kore 'Epic' rides. The ride will: * be 15~20 miles and will require 4~6 hours away from the cars, depending on the group; * be 2+ hours of driving away from Seattle area, so combined with the above ride time, it will be an all-day outing; * require pedaling uphills that will push the fitness level of an intermediate rider who feels comfortable doing the road climb up to Preston TH on Tiger; * be moderately paced for the slowest rider, meaning riders will always regroup and nobody will be dropped, but everybody has to be willing to work at it; * NOT be suitable for beginners - it's not a KORE ride, but the riders should have some experience with local rides that involve climbing, such as Tiger, Grand Ridge, and Thrilla; * NOT be suitable for faster/advanced riders - If you are ahead of the rider leader, you are on your own! (but advanced riders are more than welcome as co-leads to ride *among* the intermediate riders :))This series of rides will take place once a month throughout the season, starting with lower elevation/easier ride and progressively becoming more challenging. Actual rides will likely be announced ~2 weeks or so before the ride date depending on the snow level and trail condition reports. Also, I am looking for experienced / advanced riders who may be interested in helping me lead these rides as co-leads and sweeps. If you can/want to help for one / few / all ride(s), please contact me!! :)))
