| The International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) is in the process of developing a Regional Leadership Advisory Council (RLAC). Evergreen Acting Executive Director, Jon Kennedy is part of the committee development team for the NW RLAC.
If you would like to become more involved at a regional level with mountain biking and trail advocacy this is your opportunity!
What is the RLAC?
The NW RLAC will be made up of 10-15 people from the Northwest (OR, WA, ID, NV) who are well connected to the mountain bike community. IMBA is looking for leadership from individuals that are adept in at least one of a variety of fields, including but not limited to accounting, finance, graphic design, community-based fund raising, grant-based fund raising, business technology, marketing/PR, law, leadership development, advocacy leadership, political advocacy, events-based advocacy, and project management.... men, women, land managers, bike industry folk, advocates, weekend warriors, you name it... The goal is to create a diverse group both regionally and experientially.
What will the RLAC do?
Specific goals will be set by the RLAC in facilitated planning sessions, but there are three broad goals:
- Build Club Capacity
- Create Critical Mass
- Expand Mountain Bikers' influence on public policy
Steps taken to achieve these goals may include club/organization training sessions, the creation of a regional information clearinghouse, events, marketing, hiring paid staff, or a variety of other resources, as determined by the RLAC.
Many regional clubs will benefit from this program by having a more readily available advisor and group of resources to help achieve goals and ultimately build more trails. Having someone from Evergreen and/or our region will ensure that our concerns, and unique challenges are brought forward to a broader audience.
What is the time commitment?
Council members will largely develop their own time commitments and responsibilities. Council members may be asked to commit a few hours a week to their role. There will be one yearly in-person meeting supported by IMBA, ideally based around a summit, festival, or riding opportunity that would make the experience as entertaining as it is productive. There will also be regularly scheduled facilitated one- hour conference calls per year.
